We are requesting client-side Multimedia Redirection (MMR) offload support in IGEL OS for WebRTC-based applications, specifically the Genesys WebRTC softphone, in Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments.
Currently, the MMR components are installed and functioning on the AVD session hosts, but there is no corresponding IGEL OS endpoint-side component handling the redirected media stream. As a result, media processing remains server-side instead of being offloaded to the thin client.
This is similar to how the Microsoft Teams Optimization and Zoom VDI Plugin operate, where media processing is redirected to and handled locally on the endpoint to reduce host CPU utilization, lower latency, and improve call quality.
We are requesting an IGEL OS client-side implementation or plugin that enables full end-to-end MMR offload for WebRTC applications such as Genesys. This would allow audio/video processing to be handled locally on the IGEL endpoint while maintaining the control channel within the virtual session.
If this functionality is already on the roadmap or requires additional firmware modules or configuration, we would appreciate clarification and documentation.
Same here but for Citrix Virtual Desktop!
I spoke with Fredrik Brattstig at IGEL Now&Next and he said this was possible.
^When he said “this was possible” did he mean that it’s already implemented or that it’s possible to implement it but it’s not done yet?
