Some of our file names are not particularly friendly - they are meaning full to the department that generate them e.g. our PKI dept., but when you add them in to the UMS they are just cumbersome and long.
It would be nice if, in the UMS, I could provide a ‘friendly’ display name when I create a ‘New File’ entry. This new field could default to being the same as the file name but is editable at creation time and. if I try to modify yhe file entry at a later date. This new field could then be displayed in the Navigation tree and in ‘Assigned Objects’ in the Devices tree. As ‘Display Name’ has defaulted to the file name the existing behaviour would remain the same (the same name would appear in the GUI) but it would provide a nice new feature, IMHO, by allowing the administrator to provide a shorter more meaningful name in the UMS
We are in preparation for OS12 and most of our Development resources are focused on that main topic. Please be patient, we will continue our review of your suggestion in the meantime and try to put as much as we can in the OS12/upcoming ICG/UMS integration. Please stay tuned!
I’m so sorry but we have to reject this proposal, we have passed this feedback to PM. They are evaluating it but I can’t promise it will get implemented since it means a huge effort and the upvotes are not there…
