Firefox ESR 78 was released with IGEL OS 11 (11.05.100) on 2021-02-25.
The official release date of Firefox ESR 78 was 2020-06-30.
So it took 8 month for it to be available in IGEL OS.
I’m not sure whether this is a principle on IGELs side to wait a certain amount of time or versions to pass, or whether it takes so long to test everything.
Maybe it would also be possible to have both versions available, in case somebody wants a more stable version like debian vs ubuntu.
It would just be nice to have Firefox ESR 91 earlier than next year in March, April or later. Well, it is a suggestion…
Well, I totally get your point… Sometimes the integration is a bit behind the Solution itself, but in this case we might get a bit out of space, since we would need to consider that for a couple of other solutions too. But let’s say it this way: the way how to update components of our OS, will change soon. There we shouldn’t face this behavior anmyore!
We are in preparation for OS12 and most of our Development resources are focused on that main topic. There you will have an absolutely different approach of updating components. I will archive this Proposal since it found the way into an upcoming release.
