It’s imperative that we know the status of our UMS environment without having to manually check the console, so building in some sort of proactive monitoring notification (email for sure) should be a high priority item. For example, recently one of my UMS servers (in an HA pair) had a status of “Error”, and was not accepting login attempts. I had no idea this was an issue until attempting to login, but even though the service was running and the box was online, I have to attempt to login to each UMS server and not the DNS alias to figure out which one was broken. This is not at all ideal.
This might be part of the new Insight Service we will provide together with UMS12. Stay tuned.
We have passed this feedback to PM. They are evaluating it. I can’t promise it will get implemented sonish but at least they are looking at it!
